Frank Frazetta

Frank Frazetta is an icon.





I spent the morning looking at paintings that hark back to the days of Vampirella and Conan. Frank has been making art since the 1940's. Nearly all of it mystical and fantastic. I typically have difficulty being interested in fantasy, but Frank's art is beastly and beautiful, violent and seductive. I had a hard time seeing his art without viewing him as a predecessor to artists I admire, such as Coop.

Now, I can't help but wonder how much of his art has influenced our culture; by shaping the dreams, ideas, and fantasys of young people growing up. How many things have been inspired by his images rattling around in our heads for the past 65 years?

Jessica V.

I had the distinct pleasure to photography Jessica V. in Balboa Park recently. She is an absolute delight to be around and I wish her all the best.

New tattoo

Not on me, but my close friend Vannessa. Her heart is a larger version of one that adorns her mother's neck. She wanted a picture of it in progress as part of a surprise and I was more than happy to take it. In all a very sweet and special present, I'm sure her mother will love it.

Strobist Style

January 14th, I shot with Maria Michelle at Torrey Pines State Reserve. I had planned to use a couple AB800's and a battery to power the system. Unfortunately two days before our shoot I fried said battery while doing a different shoot. Rather than cancel short notice on Maria I switched to "Plan B" and shot the day Strobist style. With one 430ex speedlight and a patient assistant.
